As a writer, author, and journalist, I have an obligation to my readers to report the truths, not as I see the truth, but as the truth is exposed. Accurately relay these truths to my readers as they appear, not as I wish them to appear.
Removing myself from every article, every bit of news that I report, and relaying the naked facts as evidenced and backed by facts is my job, I must set my personal feelings aside, pack my emotional bags and put them in the closet while I'm writing. Give credit where credit is due, but remember to balance the scales of truth for my readers to decide where they feelings and emotions should reside.
In response to a recent email I received suggesting us reporters and journalists get together to decide what should be discussed with the new Republican elect taking office in America. I, without hesitation replied to my friends and fellow writers with the following:
"I'm a little confused. Aren't journalists and freelancers supposed to be impartial and not report biased information from the left or right. If that were the case, I don't understand what the problem would be. But if they report with a biased tilt, and neglect to report the 'real' truth, we would then have a problem, like we do today.
I learned that reporting, journalism, and writing is about unbiased truth and my opinion is just that, my opinion. The people are supposed to be allowed to form their own opinion from the truths reported.
Shouldn't we be more concerned about how we can improve the reporting values of the journalists, writers, and media, that report and summarize information to the public? We should be more concerned about our reputation and the pride of reporting accurate truthful information so the public can decide for themselves where their loyalties and beliefs rest."
We are reminded by something Henry Wadsworth Longfellow shared with the world when he gave some advice to writers about objective criticism:
"Many critics are like woodpeckers who, instead of enjoying the fruit and shadow of a tree, hop incessantly around the trunk pecking holes in the bark to discover some little worm or other."
-- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
My blog is intended to share interesting, factual, and inherent truths for the enjoyment and critique of my readers. If I ever promote or relay my personal opinion, please leave me a comment and correct me. I will write a retraction if I have implied anything that was not factual or could not be backed up with reference material.
I will from time to time inset my humor and jovial laughter at things that are obtuse, or just silly. It is intended to bring laughter or a smile to the faces of people who would normally shake their head. Thus implying I'm with you, or you're not crazy.
I hope you enjoy my blog and information I'm sharing. I don't care if my readers are left or right, up or down. I may not agree with everyone, but I agree that my readers are entitled to their opinion of the information provided.
Thank you, and please visit this site often.
